THE STAGES OF BECOMING A GOOD BELL RINGER
(Author unknown - as posted to the Handbell-L in 1999 by Alice Ralston in Midland, MI)
1. Wants fewer bells as he/she feels incompetent/shy
2. Wants just what he/she has -- feels he/she has mastery over his/her assignment and why tempt fate with more?
3. Wants more bells in order to feel challenged
4. (Bell Hog - Level 1) Wants all the bells even though he/she can't quite handle them
5. (Bell Hog - Level 2) Wants all the bells, but actually can handle them
6. (BellHog - Level 3) Wants all the bells, but gives a few up to further the "music" of the piece (i.e., can play them all, but honestly admits it does sound a tad better if they are split up and so gives away what absolutely must be given away)
7. (Musician - Level 1) understands innately what the "best" assignment is to produce the most musical result, regardless of how many bells he/she ends up with.
8. (Musician - Level 2) Divines assignments by ESP and levitates bells into hands via telekinesis. Broadcasts music directly from brain waves to audience.
