Stewardship Testimony

John Mulbah

Good morning to all.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am John Mulbah.  I just want to give you a brief history as to how I got to Emmanuel before I get onto my topic for which I am here.

I moved to Canada with my wife in 2004, Cecilia, and my two little boys, Damie, Bruce and Paula, my little daughter, and being of United Methodist background, from back home, I immediately convened a meeting with the religious councillor at the immigration centre, where I was stopping by then.

And she asked me “What can I do for you?”

“Well, I’m yearning for a church”.

And she said “What background are you from”.

I said “United Methodist”.

She said “We don’t have a United Methodist in Canada; we have a United Church of Canada.”

I said, “OK, I will think about that.”

So I did some research and got a … that we all have the same doctrine.

And so I said, “Well, I would like to be a part of the United Church of Canada.”

And she said, “Move. When you go to your new home we will find somebody that will look for you and you will be visited there.”

So we moved out by December, and then to my dismay, one day precisely the 22nd we came to the house, Cecilia and I with the kids, and we saw this Minister knocking at   the door. And he was banging our door, but we were not in.  So we just walked in.

And he said “Are you, Cecilia?”

We said “Yes.”

“I’m Bill Smith.”

“Bill Smith?”

“I’m from the United Church of Canada. Precisely Emmanuel United.”

And we shook hands and went into the house. We prayed and he told us about his beautiful congregation.  And we consented and our first service was Christmas Eve.

And we got so blessed to be with you guys.  What a wonderful church.  Blessed with a nice voice choir and good people.

This morning, our team Stewardship I don’t have much time so I just want to summarize how I feel, how I think, about Stewardship.

For me, the bible tells me that every Christian is a steward, and as such, we are the pillows of our faith community.

Good stewardship is that little good attitude that makes a big difference. As stewards, it is very important to remember that God is the owner of all that he entrusts to us.

As stewards, we must serve God with all our might, soul and clear heart. The high road to this service is traveled with integrity, compassion and understanding. At times, people do not care how much we know, until they know how much we care.

That is why God blesses and experts faithful stewardship in proportion to what he have entrusted to us through our tithe.

This is why God is looking for trustworthy stewards through whom he can channel his resources for the promotion of his kingdom which I believe is the church.

As a member of this faith community, I strongly believe that excellence is never an accident, but it is rather always the result of high good intentions, sincere effort, intelligent directions, skillful execution and the vision to see obstacles as an opportunity.

Let us be strongly reminded that God expert us to take initiatives – to honour him with our givings.

God modeled giving by giving his only son for our salvation.

God experts us to tithe and generous giving goes beyond tithe.

The sea of a good change can pull stewards in many directions.

It is our responsibility as stewards to light the way and take care of them.

God bless us all and thank you!!!
