Revitalization

Home | Revitalization

In the Sanctuary of Emmanuel United Church, we find enrichment, guidance, and inspiration for our faith journey through Sunday worship. In the Christian Education (CE) Building, we gather throughout the week where we share in programs, where we come together with the neighbouring community, and where we meet to plan, to exercise, and to share a meal.

The Sanctuary is the place for our hearts and soul. The CE Building is where we put our hands to work to put faith into action. The Sanctuary may see much of its use and focus one day of the week. The CE Building sees use seven days of the week. On a weekly basis, the CE Building supports dozens of programs, meetings and functions helping hundreds of people find community and fellowship within its walls.

After 46 years, the CE Building is rundown, outdated, and, in some instances, inoperative. As a result of the consultation process carried out during the fall of 2008, the Ad Hoc Committee has concluded that there is a sufficient consensus in the congregation to move ahead with a major CE Building revitalization project, and that future planning should concentrate on the construction proposal contained in Option 3, "Renovate the Existing Building."

189 people participated in Cottage Groups, completed surveys or wrote letters to the Committee. Detailed findings and analysis from the Cottage Group and survey processes have been provided in an appendix to this report. It is available in paper or electronic form from the Church office or from the table in the narthex, and all members of the congregation are encouraged to read it.

The Ad Hoc Committee proposes the creation of a new Fundraising Committee to embark on raising the necessary funds. One of the first tasks of this Fundraising Committee would be an every-family visitation and canvass of the congregation to validate the attainability of the fundraising target.

The Ad Hoc Committee also proposes, as has been done for previous major capital projects, the creation of a Revitalization Coordinating Committee to oversee all aspects of the CE Building Revitalization Project.

We are on a journey in which the entire congregation is participating. This is a journey that our congregation has made before. We have learned from these past experiences and they have helped us to build a stronger, more committed and more faithful community.
